About Me

Barbara's interest in nutrition grew from her experiences working with elderly people as a young adult. She noticed the terrible burden that many people face with disability, polypharmacy, and poor health that could largely be avoided with a better diet and lifestyle and wanted to help people avoid this fate.

Barbara graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Florida and completed a Master's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Bastyr University, located in Washington State. She still lives in Washington on the Olympic Peninsula.

As a person who loves math and science, Barbara enjoys reading the latest studies concerning what therapies are backed by good research as well as the new theories about what influences our health. She is currently writing a book that examines the science behind popular therapeutic diets to see how research can explain the mechanisms and benefits of these diets. For example, in recent years, more research is showing the importance of gut health to many diseases.

Barbara is not the most highly-skilled at cooking but does thoroughly enjoy a variety of cuisines, especially Thai and Indian. She has traveled extensively in India and worked as an English teacher in South Korea and loves learning about different cultures. Her hobbies include running, hiking, and yoga, but her favorite pastime is reading in bed with her cat, Sebastian.
