About Me
I am a passionate Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Health Education Specialist with more than 5 years of experience working in public health settings and community-based care. I enjoy educating the public about human nutrition, health, wellness and disease prevention. I believe all people deserve special nutrition care delivered from a "big picture" approach, discovering solutions that address deep-rooted nutrition habits. I strive to make my clients feel comfortable in our nutrition space, and to exemplify empathy, cultural competence, and nutrition expertise in all of my client sessions.
Dietetics was a second career for me. I realized 2 years into my first position after college that I wanted the rest of my working years to involve the two main things that bring me joy: food and helping people. I love being a Dietitian because it's the perfect marriage of the two. I consider all of the following as specialties and areas of interest: Type 2 Diabetes, Prediabetes, Gestational Diabetes, Weight loss, Heart Health nutrition counseling (high cholesterol and blood pressure nutrition therapy), lactation consultations, autoimmune diseases which affect gut health (Ex. celiac disease) and general nutrition consultations.
My educational background is A-typical for a Dietitian. I attended Ball State University as an undergraduate, and following graduation, I started off my public health career working as a community resource liaison for a zip-code focused violence prevention grant. That position opened my eyes to the fact that nutrition barriers are multifaceted and often require being addressed from a variety of health professions and community resources. This is when my passion for advocacy, representation, and resource connection in public health was born. Following that, I went back to school for Dietetics at Eastern Michigan University where I graduated with a master’s in human nutrition and Dietetics. And now, here I am, working as a District Dietitian at local health department, and seeing my own clients virtually outside of that.
Outside of working as a Dietitian I enjoy traveling, sharpening my barista skills, trying food from local restaurants, and especially spending time with my husband, family, and close friends. On the weekends, you can find me taking a stroll around the neighborhood, snuggled up on the couch with a book in hand, on a brunch date, or visiting a new restaurant I found on Instagram or tiktok.
My personal (and even professional) philosophy resonates with this quote by Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." - Maya Angelou. To put it simply, I believe you should treat others how you wish to be treated, and then some!
