About
Laura Meek, MS, RDN, LD
My interest in nutrition started at a very young age. At the age of 5, I witnessed my Mother die from cancer...5 years later, I had the unfortunate fate of watching my Dad die of cancer also. I decided at that point to do everything in my power to remain healthy for myself and my future family.
I started my college career a little later in life (at the age of 25) and pursued a career as a dietitian. I received my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Nutrition from the University of Central Arkansas. It was at UCA that I also completed my required dietetic internship.
My first job was working in the Long-Term Acute Care setting. I really loved it because I got the opportunity to work with super critically ill patients on tube feedings, IV feedings, dialysis, and ventilators. I know it doesn't sound very fun, but I learned a ton! My next job was working in diabetes education. I was blessed to work with an amazing retired cardiologist that helped teach the diabetes education course. He instilled in me a passion for helping diabetic patients live their best lives.
My next journey was teaching in Higher Education, talk about a learning curve! I enjoyed teaching young adults the value of proper nutrition but my true calling is helping individuals stay healthy (or get healthy) and so that is why I am here at Berry Street!
