About Me
Lani's route to nutrition has been a circuitous one. After a rewarding 20-year career in education and consulting, Lani decided to pursue her love of health and science and study clinical nutrition. This career switch was a logical pursuit considering her personal life. Her second child was born with multiple food allergies (including wheat, dairy, soy, and eggs), which opened her eyes to how diet is so critical to health. Then after trying for a third child, Lani was diagnosed with secondary infertility and polycystic ovarian syndrome. She tried everything to avoid estrogen mimicking foods in her diet and boost fertility with whole foods. Subsequently she had three more children! In 2013, she became the caregiver to her aging father. She had to figure out how to make low-fat, low-salt Filipino food and cater to his cultural palate in the healthiest way possible. In 2016, she was diagnosed with Graves Disease, an autoimmune disease, and realized she didn’t want to be forever dependent on thyroid medication. The medication made her feel permanently ill and her quality of life felt diminishing. Through intentional efforts to transform her gut health, stress levels, and eating habits she has been able to keep her Graves Disease in remission for the past 8 years.
Through all of these significant life situations, Lani is an advocate for using food and lifestyle changes to heal. She strives to provide medical nutrition therapy that empowers clients to learn how to take their lives back through nutrition education and supportive coaching. I believe in an integrative approach that investigates the interactions of multiple factors including medical history, dietary intake, medications, stress, exercise, sleep, and personal goals. I'll look for patterns and possible root causes that could be leading to symptoms, nutrient deficiencies, and the potential for disease.
