About Me
It is fascinating how food can contribute to disease but also how food can heal. How the body responds to food is why I, On Ki “Kim”’ Chan, MS, RDN, became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. It was after having kids with behavior issues and digestive issues that I became passionate about functional nutrition and getting to root cause(s), not only managing symptoms. Because of my kids and overcoming my own health issues with digestion, I do what I do today - help others with digestion & gut health (ie - SIBO, gas/bloating/constipation/diarrhea, acid reflux, IBS, chrons, ulcerative colitis, dysbiosis, intestinal permeability or “leaky gut”), women’s health & hormone issues (PCOS, perimenopause/menopause), chronic diseases (hypertension/high cholesterol/high triglycerides/high LDL, fatty liver, metabolic disease, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes), weight issues, heart health, autoimmune disease, prevention of disease, cancer (current or prevention), and longevity.
My interest is in digestion/gut health, metabolic health, hormone and liver health as I think this is foundational to health. I use a food first, science based approach. I like to ensure that everyone has a good foundation and then see what else can be done to optimize health.
I am a female Asian with a strong Chinese family who grew up in a diverse culture in Hawaii in a low income neighborhood - I am culturally and socio-economically sensitive.
I feel everyone deserves nutritional care at any age.
My education includes a Bachelors of Science degree in Nutritional Science & a Masters of Science degree in Hunan Nutrition.
My past experiences include outpatient clinics - 1. women, infants and children clinics in a community health setting, 2. maternal, adolescents and children in a HIV/AIDS/immunology clinic, 3. private pay setting, 4. longevity clinic.
