About Me
Rachel is a highly educated and skilled Registered Dietician and Diabetes Educator who completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biology and Master of Science (MS) in Nutrition and Human Metabolism from Boston University when her interest in the field began after taking a Nutrition class in college. Her interest in the subject was amplified by her own struggles with food, weight, and body image issues, with a desire to learn more about helping herself which grew into a passion to help others.
Rachel’s early career began as a research dietician working to improve gut functionality in patients with short bowel syndrome. She then had several years of consulting with a variety of insurance companies, corporate wellness programs, individual wellness counseling, and teaching group exercise classes.
A move to Los Angeles found Rachel working for the Greater VA Los Angeles Healthcare System as an outpatient dietician where she specialized in Women’s Health for Veterans and Diabetes Education. Rachel obtained her Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) designation in 2004 and continued to work as a consultant for the VA for a variety of health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, digestive issues, oncology, and weight management.
Rachel returned to the Pennsylvania area to raise her children and be closer to family. Her most recent position was as an acute care dietician in a community hospital. She gained extensive experience caring for acute care conditions complicated by underlying chronic medical conditions. During this position, Rachel provided diabetes education for all inpatient consults and covered the outpatient oncology cancer center which has a heavy focus on gastrointestinal (GI) cancers.
Over the years, Rachel has witnessed many diet trends, fad diets, weight loss schemes, and unrealistic promises from the industry which puts her in a unique position to empower her clients to make informed choices and changes for their own lives. Rachel has most enjoyed and excelled at working with people one-to-one helping them reduce chronic disease risk and achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Learning from her own journey, Rachel understands the many facets of making lifestyle changes; mindfulness of the healing and nurturing purpose of food, to shopping, meal planning and cooking healthy, nutritious meals.
In her free time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her three boys, doing yoga, spending time in nature hiking, and reading.
