About Me

Hi, my name is Laura. I am a Registered Dietitian and a board certified specialist in renal nutrition. When I started college all those years ago I knew I wanted to work in healthcare, and found Dietetics was a good fit for me. I received my B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1984.

Early in my career I worked in hospital settings which included providing outpatient nutrition counseling for weight management, diabetes-as a certified diabetes educator; and cardiovascular disease. Past experiences also include working with gestational diabetics, mental health clients, and clients needing enteral or total parenteral nutrition support; besides teaching classes for the community such as breast feeding and healthy nutrition. I also worked in long term care mid career, where I became passionate about nutrition for wound healing, seeing first hand the difference nutrition could make in the quality of life for the residents. For the past 20 years it has been all about kidney health. First as a dialysis dietitian for 13 years, until I got my nursing degree, and then I worked as an educator for both ESRD and CKD clients. It was through working with the CKD clients that I decided to focus on nutrition and CKD counseling, and have since expanded into other interests such as gut health, and food sensitivities etc.

My interests and experiences are varied and I am still learning and growing. It is my desire to to share knowledge and show compassion and understanding of the obstacles and barriers that need to be overcome on one’s health journey.
