About
Sara's personalized approach to nutrition stems from a life-long journey of discovery. Her commitment to food as medicine began in high school when she became a vegetarian, an interest that deepened in college through her studies of organic agriculture, slow food and herbal medicine. As an extra sensitive individual, Sara quickly realized the impact of inflammatory foods like sugar, gluten and dairy on her own well-being, which gave her profound empathy for clients experiencing similar challenges. Sara grounds her practice in philosophies like Hippocrates, "All disease starts in the gut," and Michael Pollan’s guidance to "Eat food, mostly plants, not too much," helping clients prioritize a whole foods first and anti-inflammatory lifestyle.
Sara specializes in several key areas where the connection between food and mind-body wellness intersect, including mental health, disordered and mindful/intuitive eating, autoimmune conditions, women's health, hormone health and food sensitivities. She offers a compassionate, evidence-based and intuitive approach, recognizing that every client's path is unique. Sara’s integrative background is intentionally used in her practice as she draws upon her extensive training as a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor, Yoga Therapist and Clinical Herbalist to provide tools and practices that enhance healing and support the whole person. She enjoys helping clients move away from restriction and toward a mindful, intuitive relationship with food.
Sara holds a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition and Integrative Health, building on her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies with a Minor in Cultural Anthropology. Her commitment to global health and cultural understanding was forged during her 27 months in the United States Peace Corps in the Philippines, where she learned Tagalog. These experiences allows Sara to connect with a diverse patient base. Outside of her clinical practice, Sara enjoys practicing yoga, taking long walks, working on her small farm at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, swimming in the ocean, traveling, working on a creative project or learning something new, like astrology.
