About Me
Tornia's interest in nutrition started in her early adulthood when she began to experience weight gain and regular joint pains. She sought help from nutrition coaches of a supplement company, where she saw some short-term results, and joined them intending to help others. She soon learned that diet and lifestyle significantly contribute to preventable chronic diseases.
She entered the field of fitness working mostly with individuals interested in weight management and joint injury recovery. Not long after she committed to the journey to become a registered dietitian. She engaged in multiple research ventures while pursuing her BS in nutrition and dietetics at the University of the District of Columbia, one of which was published in the American Journal of Undergraduate Research. The University of Maryland Medical Center has one of the most clinically diverse and intense training programs in the country. There, Tornia learned to care for chronically ill persons with complex medical conditions during her dietetic internship. Then later she helped thousands of people in outpatient clinics.
Tornia believes that all people deserve optimal nutritional care, which includes being listened to regarding past experiences and beliefs. Food is very personal and how one feels about their food choices needs to be considered in their care. She is an advocate for patient-centered care, ensuring people are empowered with the information they need to make decisions that work best for them.
